What is Branding really?
Branding is combination of things, it’s usually always something that is hard to sum up in one simple sentence but essentially is an experience and a feeling you invoke into the person coming into contact with you or your business. Branding is like a person, is the combination of:
Visual Identity - the way you look
Voice - the messaging, things you say, the things you talk about
Values - it’s what you stand for, your values, character, etc
When all of these aspects of branding come to together it crafts an experience.
A brand is more than just a logo. A logo while it is the symbol, or as I like to call it the face of the brand, it’s the identifying visual, a brand is more than it’s face, similarly a your face is more than who you are, there is obviously so much more to you than what meets the eye and which is why I’d even say the logo is just face value. You can read this blog post I wrote “A logo is not your brand”.
Branding is not just for corporate companies. If anything small business owners need branding more than ever, to communicate their value and earn trust in the market place. See, branding let’s people know:
1) you’re here for the long haul
2) you are willing to invest in your brand
3) you are not just another fly by night business
4) you’re prepared to deliver an experience
So back to the analogy of a brand being like a person. Branding is like styling and development of a person, it’s your entire image as well as your reputation carefully crafted and cultivation of one’s reputation also known as your audience’s perception.
“Even in a negative economy, customer experience is a high priority for consumers, with 60% always or often paying more for a better experience.”
How do you want your business to be perceived?
The perception of your business is owned by your audience not the business. Intentionally crafted messaging and visuals, cultivates and manages your business's Brand Perception in the market place.

How does branding benefit you?
When you brand your business you are making a promise to your customer. Your brand demonstrates your core values as a business, your commitment to the service your offer and gives you an identity that sets you apart of other businesses in your niche/ market.
The foundation of your brand is your (brand) strategy. You have to examine your strategy before you can design a brand that has a plan and a purpose.
